All you really need to worry about is whether a target is fully biological, fully electronic, or a mix of both. Some weapons are completely ineffective against certain extremes. Weapons will vary in effectiveness against different enemies due to armor and resistances. Just believe in the game's ability to subtly guide you even if you may feel overwhelmed with options in the beginning. There is a distinct logic to the station's layout, and it's flow, that you'll pick up on over time. The game is also much less of a maze than it may initially seem.
